Locally common on lava outcrops on SW-facing slope (60-80°).

Flowers light yellow, ovary light green, moderate amount of nectar present (0.5-1 ml). Flower measurements: (mm) o = 26.5, n = 4, tu = 4.5, inner tepal = 23 (1) x 8 (w), outer tepal = 23 (1) x 6 (w), fl = 4, fl = 52, a = 15, s = 50 (not receptive). Local people call the plant mescal, and harvest the plant when the inflorescence emerges, bake the cabeza, and eat it.
