State-owned prairie fen (public hunting) with mostly sedge meadow zones and interspersed small marl zones. Several manmade channels and small creeks run through it. Prevelant vegetation includes Carex sterilis, Dasiphora fruticosa, Larix laricina, Pycnanthemum virginianum, Doellingeria umbellata, Eutrochium maculatum, Scheonoplectus tabernaimontanii, Rhamnus alnifolia, and Cornus. Heavy invasion of Frangula alnus. Some Toxicodendron vernix but is not dense in most areas. Evidence of recent burn with burnt logs, snags, small brush, and little dead ground vegetation in some areas. Also evidence of humans and possible ATV traffic. In central-eastern portion of prairie fen, 15m east of elm grove with understory of Frangula alnus, 80m west of wooded eastern border. Found in wet meadow dominated by Poaceae, Dasiphora fruticosa, and Carex. Ground with wide hummocks, moist soil.
Flower - 1-2 per plant, usually 1, 6 tepals, red with yellow and black spots near base, 6 stamen, 3 stigma, ovary in center, each tepal curl to form cup at base. Population - common, 1-2 per 4-9m2, flowering, about 50cm tall. Growing with Dasiphora frutic
