In a vacant lot; scrubby hummocks of Live Oak and Ilex vomitoria with intervening grassy, open, seasonally wet, swales. Very common in lower swales; phyllaries dark purple, flowers phlox purple; roots truncate and enlarged, not really globose. [Mayfield added directly on sheet: "Parent Taxon". He considers this a parent of a L. pycnostachya X elegans var. carizzana hybrid; see also Mayfield 1531, 1532, 1533 for complete hybrid series.].
