Prairie fen with sedge meadow zone common throughout, wooded fen with many tamaracks (Larix laricina); lots of Frangula alnus. Very long, narrow fen. Split by the headwaters of the Grand River. East side owned by The Nature Conservancy, west side mostly privately owned. Grand River is too deep/silty to cross without use of footbridges. Many zones in fen. Periodic shurbby zones; invasives; Phalaris arundinacea common. In center north-south of prairie fen; 100m east of upland field/pasture; 75-100m west of stream; 50m southwest of 12-15m tall isolated Larix laricina next to stream. In sedge meadow; dominated by Carex, Dasiphora fruticosa; Asteraceae; and encroached heavily by Cornus, Salix, and Toxicodendron vernix. Most Cornus less than 1.5m tall; browsed. Ground hummocky and moist. Soil dark.
