Growing on a ledge on the cliff face that forms the west wall of the canyon. Moderately well-shaded but relatively dry. Slope about 60°; facing north-northwest. Sonoran Desertscrub.
Soil deposits on the ledge are shallow, show a highly variable particle size, and have derived in situ from Catalina Gneiss and organic detritus. The cliff face is composed of Catalina Gneiss.
Cercidium, Crossosoma, Agave, Opuntia, Lotus
The mounting techniques used on this specimen have obscured many of the hairs normally seen on the upper frond surface.
