Fen curves around east and south portions of the lake. Many "No Trespassing" signs posted. Mostly herbaceous Cyperaceae with shrubs on borders. Actively maintained by The Nature Conservancy. Fay Lake Road borders on east and south side fo fen. 60m south of lake, 50m north of access road and directly across from log cabin house. Cyperaceae and Dasiphora fruticosa dominant with Toxicodendron vernix and Cornus shrubs (1 every 4m2, more dense toward access road). Ground uneven with short mounds and very moist. Pitcher plant and bog Lobelia nearby.
Spike - 2 basal scales, wider than base, many scales 10mm long, 3mm wide. Achene without distinct tubercle.Population - widespread, clumped, common along lakeshore to where Toxicodendron vernix becomes more dense.
