abundantly short-pubescent below, the older leaves with a "dirtier" look on lower surface; acorns variable, the largest (=most well-developed?) gun-metal blue to blackish, and scurfy; acorns fairly hard to find, as many have already fallen; locally abundant with Pinus palustris, Quercus marilandica, Q. virginiana, Rhus copallina, Lyonia mariana, Gaylussacia frondosa, Salvia azurea, Aster walteri, A. concolor, A. tortifolius, Solidago odora, Aristida stricta, Andropogon ternarius, Schizachyrium scoparium, pine savanna along NW margin of Piggys Road, 1 mi W of main office at James W. Webb Wildlife Center, 4.2 mi W of Garnett off Sec Hwy 20.
