Growing from horizontal crack in cliff face that forms the south wall of the tributary. Moderately moist and well shaded. Slope: About 45 degrees; facing north. Community: Mixture of Evergreen Oak Woodland and Riparian elements.
Soil deposits in the crack are very shallow, show a heterogeneous mixture of particle sizes, and have derived in situ from local Tertiary rhyolite and organic detritus. Cliff face is rhyolite.
